Asbury Park’s Newest Restaurant Is a Jewish-Italian Ode to New Jersey
Judy's ethos? "A Jewish woman who thinks she's Italian"
The newly opened Judy’s in Asbury Park answers the question: “What if we made a restaurant that was distinctly New Jersey?”
Chef David Viana and Neilly Robinson are back with their latest concept, Judy’s. The Jewish-Italian red sauce joint replaces their former restaurant, Heirloom, inside of boutique Asbury Park hotel The St. Laurent.
Named after Robinson’s mother, a self-proclaimed “Jewish woman who thinks she’s Italian,” the restaurant weaves together popular red sauce classics with a proud Jewish flair.
This means Reuben-style tuna crudos, ricotta matzo ball soup, potato latkes with bagna cauda, takeout-style chicken and broccoli gnudi—playing off the popular tradition of Jewish Americans ordering Chinese food on Christmas. What’s more are “standard” red sauce options like chicken parm, fried calamari, braised escarole with beans and meatballs.
Oh yeah… the frozen cannoli cocktail is f*cking absurd. In a good way.
All thing’s considered, Judy’s is an ode to New Jersey.
